For my proposed self-directed project I want to explore the concept of identity. This has been something I’ve been currently struggling with myself, personally. Lately, I’ve just been feeling lost and unable to find a sense of belonging. I think this is something that numerous amounts of people if not everyone tend to struggle with at times, especially after significant events such as a worldwide pandemic. The context will elaborate on the concept of not feeling enough, purposeless and an investigation of exploration of self. I know this is something different than my intended proposal but I think that this is something I am more passionate about in terms of subject matter.

My project has evolved with time and engagement. I originally wanted to use paint and collage but I have decided to move in a different direction. I had to ask myself after some tests and unsatisfactory results what I truly enjoy making and what I want to convey and what I truly enjoy making. Double exposures are something I find myself revisiting. I want to demonstrate identity and self in contrast to the nature of city life. Through manipulation of my own media of self-portraits ie digital and analogue methods of photography, I aim to create a cityscape that showcases the over-encompassing nature of an urban area.
